The doctors are being very cautious and conservative with Frank and continue to monitor his condition in the hospital. The good news is that his condition is improving. The swelling of the hematoma has reduced and no complications have emerged from the contusions.
He is sounding like the Frank we all know and is passing all of the memory quizzes and exams with flying colors. His biggest complaint right now is being stuck in the hospital and fighting boredom. He has been able to sit and stand and the last news was that he would be able to try sitting up more and use some of the furniture in his room besides the bed. Kay Lyn mentioned that he was having a much easier time staying awake during the day and that they talked and visited for the entire morning (at least until past midnight pacific time).
He will have to be cautious in his activities for the next few weeks and monitor for any changes because of the possibility of new swelling. After a few weeks and more CT scans hopefully we will find that the hematoma has completely subsided.
So as of right now, he will have a fourth CT scan on Monday and might be able to go home on Tuesday. He needs to take it really easy. Even though the bleeding site is healing, they are still monitoring the contusions (bruising and swelling) injuried spots on the front right and back left side of his brain.
We are thrilled that we had a very easy conversation with Frank last night. Thank you for all for your thoughts and prayers. Mostly thank you for those of you who have emailed Kay Lyn. She mentioned that the emails have really helped her. If you would still like to send either of my parents a message I know it would be like a visit to the hospital. klshaw818@gmail.com
