Update on my Dad....

On Sunday, Anson received a phone call from my mom that my dad was in the hospital for a pretty bad head injury. She isn't quite sure what exactly happened or how he fell that caused his injury. Around 10: 45 p.m. Sunday night, he woke up from a dead sleep to get out of bed to get nose spray for a stuffy nose. My mom said she heard some weird and unfamiliar sounds and then heard my dad kind of screaming or yelling as if he was mad. She got up to go see what was wrong and found him in the middle of another bedroom on the floor face up with blood coming out of his ear and nose going in and out of consciousness with his eyes half way open. She called 911 (not sure if the number is 911 in Cebu, Philippines) for help.

The first hospital they took him to didn't have a CT Scan machine so he was transferred to the Cebu Doctor's Hospital in Cebu which is a teaching hospital. Looking at him he had a cut above his right eye, bruised nose and a cut lip. After the CT Scan, it showed that he had a skull fracture on the left back side of his head and a subdural hematoma on his right frontal lobe of his brain that was bleeding. It is still a question what caused the fall and my dad can't remember falling. It seems he might have tripped, ran into a wall or hit the floor face down and then got back up being not steady on his feet and feel backwards hitting his head on the tile floor causing the fracture.

For the first couple of days, my dad has been in and out. He can't recall why he is in the hospital, doesn't undstand why he still has to be there, and wants to leave. After the second CT Scan came back showing a slight increase of bleeding in the trama spot, he was put into the Intensive Care Unit for 24 hour care. I was told that the neosurgeon at first wanted to drill to relieve the pressure in the brain, but due to the heart medication he takes would make the surgy risky.

** Today is the fourth day for our family in the United States and I think the fifth day for my parents in the Phillipines since the accident. **

A third CT Scan was done again yesterday and show again a slight increase of bleeding, but the surgeon does not want to do surgry. My mom was told that he will at least minium be in the hospital for another week and hope to move him out of the ICU today. The doctors are still concerned what caused the fall and that he is still extremely dizzy.

So for now....we are going to be patient and take day by day. We need to get rid of that very back head ache, heal the skull fracture and reduce the swelling and bleeding. We are thinking and praying for you dad! We love you!
