Kaiser has the best idea going for giving shots. A drive
thru! Each October, we pile in the car as a family on a Saturday for our annual flu shot. Since we have to little asthma kids in our family, it is strongly (i say required) to have these shots. I don't want either of them to get the "bad" flu that can led to pneumonia or respiratory issues. Sydney's lungs especially does not handle respiratory issue very well.

We always tell our kids we are on our way to get shots ahead of time and they deal with it
ok. This time around, I didn't tell them it was a flu shot instead of their bi-monthly allergy shots. Not on purpose, I just forgot to clarify. Sydney, the poor thing, started freaking out when she read the drive-
thru sign. She hates the flu shots....more painful.

Look how great! Kids in seat belts, nurse opens door, rolls up sleeve and then the shot! It takes less than 15 seconds.

My brave, brave, brave Sydney. She has officially now have had 101 shots! This is total is the combination of all vaccinations, allergy shots (about 70 in this past year) and flu shots. When we go to clinic for allergy shots, she runs away when they call her name and I have to help hold her down. It breaks my heart, but I know she needs these to help fight off severe asthma attacks. I frequently remind her that if we don't do the allergy shots, she will probably get sick and have to have an IV and stay in the hospital. She hates the IV even more, it seems to help about 1% of her anxiety. I feel like I am really mentally damaging her, but I also know these shots are
necessary to keep her body as
healthy as possible.

Camden has now jumped on board with the allergy shots. He is so proud of himself that on the 18 shot he said, "Mommy, look at me. I haven't cried like Sydney. Sydney it only hurts a little. Don't cry." He is so sweet and takes the shots with a stride. I do have to sit with him. I feel his little bottle get tense and sign heavy when the shot goes in, but like he said he doesn't cry. It puts a lot of pressure on Sydney. Some days it helps her to stay more calm then others and he always wants to go first to show Sydney that it is
ok. What a good brother.

This was a good shot day. Camden really play a supportive role and kept telling Sydney it was going to be
ok.

This is a picture of Camden with Paulette, one of our favorite nurses. He doesn't look happy because the shot site had started to itch and it was making him mad. Well there is our story 101 shots later.... 1 year down and only 4-6 more years of driving 28 minutes each way twice a month. I have to keep my sweet babies healthy...

Camden is such a great brother! Sometimes i forget how young he is. He always seems to act older than he really is. you are one lucky Mom Lora, you have great kids! Thanks for sharing their adventures. it is always fun to read about. Sydney is more brave than i am. There is no way i could get 101 shots!
Thanks for the pictures and great commentary. Drive-in shots are "so California"...grin.
