I Didn't See This One Coming!

For the last week I have been enjoying beautiful flowers given to me for my birthday. I have had them on my glass table in the living room so I pass by them several times a day. For the last couple of days, one bouquet of flowers with pretty pink tulips have been dropping their petals. Each time I walk by I have been telling myself, "I need to clean those up."

Today when Sydney got home from school I noticed that she had gotten a plastic bag and picked each petal off the floor and table and then placed the bag on the table next to the vase. I said to Sydney, "Thank you so much for cleaning up the flower petals! That was very nice of you." She replied to me, "I picked them up so we could save them to sprinkle on your casket when you die." I was shocked! I didn't have a reply for her. I just kept thinking about my casket and that I was going to be dying?!?! Last week she was afraid that I would die before her, but now she is making preparations for my death. She has come to terms with me dying and now knows that I will find her in heaven. I guess Sydney takes after me in the way of always trying to be prepared for anything. I think she has gone a little too far and is preparing for my death?!?! I am crossing my fingers that she has to save those flower petals for a really long, long, long, long, long, long time.

When I was Sydney's age I also spend time pondering and thinking about my parents passing away and considering what the consequences and solutions might be if my mother died as well.

I don't recall ever making these kinds of preparations. She's an amazing girl.
