Hopping For Hours!

A few weekends ago, Anson and I seriously went shopping for a wii for the kids. They have been asking for one over and over and over and over (I could add about 1000 more overs, but I will spare you) again. We weren't quite sure what we were going to do if we found a bundle that we likes, so we thought we would just shopped around a bit.
Well, as we were looking I just kept thinking how much fun I had when I was their age playing and exploring the outside world. So half way through our trip I just told Anson, "Let's just paint a permanent hopscotch on our driveway instead of buying a wii!" The kids are always trying to draw and play on their own.

My parents painted one on my driveway growing up and we had so much fun with it. After running to OSH to pick up some Duck Tape and white spray paint we heading home to start our project.
It took Anson and I about 3 hours to complete, but well worth the time and effort! The kids absolutely LOVE it. The first day after the project was completed they played hop scotch for 4 hours! People....That is 4 hours of physical playing outdoors! Since then, they have played on the course at least 45 minutes or more each day.

So our possible wii purchase of $300 after all the bells and whistles became a $20 purchase. The bells and whistles from the $20 purchase are the endless hours outdoor play with friends, family and exercise. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we end up with a wii or something like that in the future, but for now we will stick with the old school games.

P.S. I'm sure if you have a wii at your house and my kids are over for a play date, they would love to play since Sydney and Camden tell their friends that there mom and dad, "They won't let us have one. We have to ask Santa Clause!"

That brings back lots of memories. I loved hopscotch as a kid also. Our version was slightly different but the end result is the same--lots of fun and healthy exercise. I can't wait to play with them.

So fun! I'm always telling the kids how lucky they are to live in a court and in a neighborhood where they can play outside. If the weather is even remotely nice enough I kick them out, and I know the memories they are forever!
