Weekend Surpise Part 1!

About two months ago, my brother told me that he and his family were planning a trip to the San Diego area for a about a week in June. They wanted to do some relaxing at a beach. He asked if we'd like to come down, but neither Anson or I thought we would be able to make it and not really wanting to drive 10-12 hours for a weekend so we didn't think much more of the idea.

Well last week (I think) David called and said they are moving their trip up closer to LA and will be hanging out at Huntington Beach. With that making out drive only 5.5 hours, we were very tempted to go but we still hesitated. Sydney is still in school, Anson will be returning from work travel and I was "on call" for a friend to go in labor so I could capture her experience with my camera. It felt all very overwhelming and it just made more since to stay home even though I really wanted to hang out with family and play with my sweet little niece Lily. So we officially decided we were not going to go.

I got a text Thursday night around 11:40 p.m. from my prego friend that she thinks she "might" be in labor and they are heading to the hospital. I tried to sleep that night. It was hard because I was super excited for my friend and I knew the hospital is 45 minutes away and didn't want to hit morning traffic. Her last baby came so fast. I received a phone call at 5:45 a.m. that she has been admitted and it was baby time. I got ready super fast, hit the road and made it in plenty of time. I was able to capture all of the amazing moments up to the magical moment when her sweet baby boy was born.

As I was driving home from the delivery, I was trying to see if we could pull off a short trip to LA to see my brother. I didn't have a way to talk to Anson until later so I tried to put the thoughts to the side. Too stressful for my brain. Anson made it home around 7:45 p.m. and I told him of the days events and he said, "Let's getting packing! Let's go!" We put the kids to bed and held off telling the kids because we weren't sure if we were going to find an affordable place to stay on short notice. By 9:00 p.m. Anson had found a place for us to stay using his points and the quick packing begun.
By 11:00 p.m. the car was packed and ready to go. We woke up the kids bright and early Saturday morning and they found Minnie Mouse and Pluto on the kitchen table tipped them both off that we were heading to Disneyland. My favorite part of the surprise moment was when they both said independently from each other, "We are going to Disneyland?!?! I DON'T WANT TO RIDE THE TOWER OR TERROR!" Obviously the tower left a strong dislike impression on them. We loaded up and were on the road by 7:15 a.m. and hit the Disney area by 12:30 p.m.

As we were checking into out hotel, I told the kids that we should go to the beach. They replied, "Nooooooooo! We want to go to Disneyland." With a lot of pushing, we got dressed in our beach wear and headed off to Huntington beach. I know if I told them Uncle Dave, Auntie Sarah and Lily were going to be there, they would have gone in a split second, but we decided to keep it a surprise.
My kids had no idea they were going to be there. And if you look at all of the pictures you can see David and his family in the background as I keep taking pictures as we get closer to them. In the picture just above I told the kids to scoot over a little closer and they still haven't notice the family. Camden is even watching the kite David is flying.

I told them to scoot over again and Sydney all of sudden realized who she was scooting over too!

It definitely took them a second to register and within seconds of that they ran over for hugs. It was so fun to surprise them.
The funny thing was is that Sydney called Sarah from the hotel to tell her we were going to the beach. Sydney knows that Sarah LOVES the beach. Little did she know she would find her Auntie there!

Ahhhh....so glad we made it and the fun has just begun!
