Camping With Family And Friends!

For one of our little summer trips, we went camping in Columbia, California. My kids were super excited when they found out I was going to come. They have gone camping with dad before, but never with me. I actually haven't been camping in the 13 years I've been married.

So we got where we needed to be and the kids and their friends, the Riddle family, ran off to explore their new world. Me...I pretty much acted like a princess. It was easy for me to do so since I was coming off of a bad week of back pain, which is why I haven't gone camping for years. I really enjoyed watching Anson put the tent together while making "sweet" no so helpful comments to him. Let's just say there was a lot of sarcasm.
Columbia used to be a gold mining town. They've done a good job keeping up the old town feel. It is a perfect place for young kids. I think any kids over 12 might think it is dumb or at least act like it is to avoid not being cool.
The kids loved climbing the rocks and searching for special sticks and rocks for their pretend fire.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I did make it through the night in a tent without my bed. Phewww....! So the following day we headed off to Old Town Columbia. I know I have posted about Hannah and Camden before, but these two kids just love each other. They are truly soul mates and the best of friends. On their own, they started walking down the street holding on to each other while talking in their very own world.

One of the old buildings had a museum and in the back a place for the kids to dress up like the gold miners did in the old days. Sydney LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this. She yelled to me, "Mom, this is just like Little House on the Prairie!" She is for sure my daughter. LHP is one of my most favorite shows to this very day and Sydney loves it to.

Sydney just kept changing aprons, bonnets and exchanging different kinds of baskets, tins and buckets. She was living the Laura Ingles dream.

Camden fell in love with the brick building play area. He stayed there for 45 minutes building different kind of towers and walls. The LHP thing didn't click for him and actually found the dress up was just getting in his way.

A lovely picture of Camden "hitting the wall". Got a little grumpy and didn't want to move. It was pretty hot.
Then, of course, he got mad at me because I was taking pictures of him being mad. I have to agree with him though. If someone was taking pictures of me in a bad mood, I would be mad too.
Here's a picture of us all! The kids are like cousins to each other and pretty much get along really well. I'd have to say Sydney's highlight of the trip was being able to feed and take care of 8 month old Bree.

Enjoying a yummy ice cream while watching a street performer dancing and playing his harmonica.

Looks like a great trip with lots to see and plenty of fun for everyone. Really glad you were able to get comfortable enough to sleep.
