Eeeewwwww Germs!

I'm guessing that I'm not the only parent who has to remind their kids to wash their hands after using the restroom. Sydney gets it. She knows that you have to wash your hands to clean off the germs and does it every time and with soap. Camden, hummm. It has been a little tougher and I would say I have to remind him 40% of the time and turns right back around while say, "I forgot again!"

For the last several weeks I haven't had to tell him and thought to myself, "Yippee, he remembers." Well, I happened to walk by the bathroom as he was washing his hands and he wasn't using soap. I asked him why and he replied, "It takes too long." So there we went again. Every time he used the restroom I would hear the water running and then he would come out and I would ask, "Did you use soap?" He would do a big sigh, shrug his shoulders and go rewash his hands again.

Yesterday I told Anson to find a picture of a hand that had germs on it from not using soap to show Camden. In hopes this would convince my little boy to use soap every time.

They looked at several germs on the computer and talked about how yucky they all looked. Anson found some pretty gross stuff, but I will spare you those pictures. There was a lot of "Ewwww....yucky...gross!" comments going back and forth.
After Camden saw the bacteria in the picture above he turned to Anson said, "Daddy, I will wash my hands with soap!" Sometimes a picture says more than any words we could have told him. We'll have to see how it goes. So far soap has been used every time....

buy him some really cool soap (sparkles or a cool color) and teach him a great song to sing while washing his hands (about 30 seconds long).
