Where Is Sydney?

This past week at Sydney's school was Community Service Helpers week! They received visits from the fire department, police officer, doctor and EMT's.

The EMT visit was one of Sydney's most fun?!? She loved the idea she got to see the ambulance and not have to go in one sick with asthma. Look at that smile beaming from one side to the other.

The following weekend while I was visiting with someone in the living room the phone rang. Anson got up to grab it and from what I was overhearing it sounded like it was someone we haven't heard from for awhile. After about a minute, Anson turned the phone over to me.

I said, "Hello?"
Voice on the other side, "Hi Lora! It's Mama Ellen!" In a heavy Filipino accent.
I quickly realize who it is and reply, "Mama Ellen! How are you?" She is one of the charge nurses at Dameron Hospital that Sydney has been admitted to for her asthma for the last 4 times in the past 3 years.
"Lora, Lora...Where is Sydney? We have been waiting for her? Is she not here anymore?" she said.
"Yes, Sydney is still here and doing really well!" Thinking to myself did she just asked me if Sydney is still alive..Yikes! Remember she has a very heavy Filipino accent.
"We have a bed waiting for her at the hospital and she has not been here to see us!" She replied.
I went on for a minute telling Mama Ellen that Sydney is doing very well and hopefully won't need a bed this spring.
Mama Ellen followed up by saying "Here is my home number. You call me when she needs to come in and I get you a private room. You call me let me know."

A few more words were exchanged and we hang up. I absolutely love the nursing staff at Dameron. They have also been so sweet to Sydney and so nice to me. We have also gotten to know them very well over the last 4 years. I would have to say it was not a phone call I was expecting...my daughter's hospital calling to see where she has been. It's pretty bad that we have been there enough for them to know us that well, but it was also extremely nice knowing Mama Ellen has been thinking of my sweet Sydney. Enough to call to see if we were coming soon. She even told me she would have chicken finger and ketchup for Sydney when she gets there. I guess Sydney's frequent flier miles have earned VIP status at Dameron!
