Speech Therapy

If you have had a chance to talk with my cute Camden, you might have a hard time understanding him if you don't talk too him often. He has the cutest lisp that makes his stories so fun to listen too. It wasn't until a friend suggested that I have him checked out that I realized that he can be hard to understand if your not family.

I contacted the school district in our area and they said that they offer free speech therapy for those who pass the screening. Camden was evaluated with Miss Diane last Monday. I told him it was a special preschool just for him and that he could tell the teacher stories. He was really excited and even brought his preschool bag. Camden had to tell Miss Diane the names of fifty items that made different sounds from the alphabet e.g., basket, fish, feather, chair, yellow, green.

After the word test Miss Diane told me that Camden has a "very noticeable protrusional lisp and that he uses co-articulation." So what does that mean? I don't completely understand quite yet, but she said that he seems to mostly only lisp when he is saying a word at a time and that he did "ok" when he used the same word in a sentence. I think?!? Any way, she is going to work with Camden to learn to position his tongue in different places when he says different sounds. I'm not too worried about the lisp since we are working on it so early. She said it becomes a lot more difficult the older they are and you have almost up to the age of 8 to correct it. Since he is so young and still developing his words, he should do fine. I actually hate to correct him, I think he sounds cute when he talks, but I know it is easier to do it now than later.

That's so crazy, we're trying to do the same thing right now with Cayden. We're having a hard time getting someone to accept us into their school district b/c we live in a "business" lot. I've been trying for over a month to get it moving along...you'll have to tell me how he does!
