STAR Student!

When I picked Sydney up from school on Friday, she came running with a big smile and a rolled up poster yelling, "I'm the second star student next week." She was soooo excited and happy that she was chosen to be second. I can not stress enough how excited she was to be second because she, "Did not want to wait for a long time for her turn," she told me.

Sunday afternoon we worked on her poster. She had to draw several the items describing herself. She started with the things she likes to do. Bowling, swimming and going to school. She drew a picture of her self being happy. She had to draw a picture of her friends. She labeled them Emma, Julie and Jack. I asked her if Jack knew he was her friend and she got all shy with a big smile and said, "No, but he will know tomorrow." She drew pictures of her favorite places. Disneyland and Utah. A picture of her family. And her last pictures were about her wishes. She drew pictures of a dog, a cat, a TV in her room, no more shots and to be healthy (no asthma.) She enjoyed every minute of this project. She has great enthusiasm about projects and paperwork/homework.

I asked Sydney if it would be OK to make her poster like a flap book. I found pictures for almost everything on her poster and attached them so you could lift the picture to see the drawings Sydney had drew. It turned out cute and she loved it. So much, that she went to bed early so the next day would come faster so she could show her class her poster.
When Anson dropped Sydney off Monday morning, she quickly got out of the car and walked proudly towards her teacher with her poster. She couldn't wait! I heard from one of her teachers, Mrs. Sansavor, that Sydney asked several times throughout the day if it is time for the Star Student. The Star Student of the week isn't featured until 3:00 p.m. each day. It was a long day for her, but they said she did a great job and they loved her work. I wish I could have been there to hear her talk about her poster. I can imagine her with the biggest smile and feeling so important and proud about her work. I love that she gets so excited about things.
